We are Sealed With A Kiss Candle Co. (S.W.A.K. Candle Co.)

Music, travel, scents, and fire.  Four of the things that bring a smile to my face (besides my 3 monkeys) and peace to my soul.  My first time to England, I wrote in my journal, I wished I could capture the smell and put it in a jar to open whenever I might miss that beautiful island.

​Scents allow me to time travel [and they say it's not real]. Two other distinct scents that bring instantaneous nostalgia are: 1) my grandmother's powder compact... I close my eyes and I'm a 3-year-old girl, standing in my grandmother's room holding her powder compact; and, 2)  the smell of my mother's turquoise blue leather wallet. I STILL smell it as if I'm there now.  [Perhaps, my olfactory processing system is close to the memory hub. Who knows!?! But it's strong]. The beauty is with a simple lighting of a candle, I travel all over the world [blessed with a fabulous imagination].

Earlier this year, I started making candles.  I chose soy wax as I wanted my candles how I like my people -- non-toxic and organic. I loved that each one was a smidge different than the next. Each one unique. Mixing the fragrances, lighting the wick, travelling via nostalgia, THEN adding music. A beautiful symphony. Bliss.  

​On the one-year anniversary of my momma's passing, my siblings and I were reminiscing about my mom. I shared, I remember when I would write letters to my boyfriend, friends, or cousins, and I'd ask for a stamp, mom would say, "Did you write, S.W.A.K. on the back?" She then explained that you HAVE to write S.W.A.K. on the back... so the recipient of said letter would know it was sent with love and sealed with a kiss!  While sharing this memory, I instantaneously knew I would share my candles and call it, 'Sealed with a Kiss (S.W.A.K.) Candle Co.' in honor of my mom, Shirley Jean, who always lived and loved a little bit 'extra.' [And yes, I did just time-travelled back to my childhood home in Indiana and smell that turquoise blue leather wallet for a few moments. I smile thinking...it may be true that with every ringing of a bell an angel may receive their wings...but, I shall choose to believe that with every blowing out a candle, that kisses and love are being spread all around.
